‘The Tales: 1-15’ (2016)

The First Tale
He paid no mind when his finger tip felt the familiar snag of the chip. The chip, a comforter. Each time his finger felt the rough edge of the chip the memory of his own love, his own soulmate came into his and the time she made the chip…

The Second Tale
His own soulmate came into his memory and the time she made the chip…the step ladder, the wobble, and the porcelain cat…he smiled at the memory and rubbed his eye…a tear brushed away…

The Third Tale
His finger showed no hesitation as it pressed the deactivate button on his Facebook settings page…reclaiming his freedom, he saw a new sun rising on the horizon. Days later he had no reason to reactivate it, it wasn’t missed…freedom.

The Fourth Tale

The Fifth Tale
Gazing out of the window, he spotted tho blanket of clouds stretching out to the horizon, his mind wandered off, imagining bouncing on the surface towards the sun, ‘if only’ he sighed…he settled on a thought,’above the clouds the sun always shines’

The Sixth Tale
These feet, no one knows where they will end up, they walk with a purpose but explore the world, they find themselves in touch with the earth. These feet are planted on ground, yet the mind is free amongst the clouds..a pilgrimage to where? The world

The Seventh Tale
The raindrop sank down the window, slowly at times then speeding up as it collected more raindrops on its journey to the bottom…his eyes followed, his mind thought of life, slowly as a child and faster the more people and baggage a person gathers..

The Eighth Tale
Autumn…The early morning damp fills my nose…I step out and close the creaky door…Behind me sleeps my beloved wife…Our adorable, precious children…Behind me now sleeps my life…Returned…Altered but returned…Revived

The Ninth Tale
A footstep followed another, repeating down the corridor, the strip lights buzzed above his head, the dark gathered in the distance, her footsteps sounded more purposeful, she’d done this many times before…leading him into the unlit room to wait…

The Tenth Tale
Pillango manoeuvred up and down, graceful yet frenetic, amongst the leaves and tiny sprigs of the hedges, searching for the petals that could support her delicate nature, but non seemed to be able to…she fluttered more, continuing to find the one.

The Eleventh Tale
The sun beat down on Eirdarlaus’ shoulders and neck, she was sure she’d made the right decision despite the current discomfort. With her baggage on her back she set out, one foot after another down the track towards the river…

The Twelfth Tale
‘The Cup Song’ came on the stereo, the Pitch Perfect soundtrack, a guilty pleasure…memory of his daughters clapping out the cup routine filled his mind…their future memories, like his of ‘The Unforgettable Fire’ and afternoon drives in the 1980s.

The Thirteenth Tale
‘Why?’
‘Because…’
‘WHY?’
‘B-because, b-because…’
His stammer always revealed itself at the most inappropriate moments, when the long-cast shadow of anxiety stretched its tendrils onto his shoulders & around his fragile throat, breath seeped away.

The Fourteenth Tale
‘It’s all to do with air resistance…’
‘But how?’
She crouched down, looked at her daughter.
‘The plane travels fast, the wing shape means the air is faster over the top than bottom, different air pressure, lifts it. So mum, it’s not just magic.’

The Fifteenth Tale
They laid peacefully under the tree.
‘It’s all to do with air resistance…’
‘What is?’
‘The reason why the ant will fly further than the beetle’
‘I love your brain, but…what?!’
She first flicked the ant, then the beetle off his cheek
‘Ouch!’
‘See’
